The client guide

The client guide
Communication is said to be a powerful tool. That applies to translation process too. But the first phase of this process where communication plays key role, is in the initial contacts between the client and the translation agency they turned to with a project. Here are some basic questions that the clients need to answer before the translation itself begins (the job of the translation team would be much more facilitated, if they have that information, so even if they don't ask, tell them):

1. What language is the document in?
That information is needed so that the translation agency can schedule your project and perform it in the shortest timeframe. Rare languages are specialized by less translators, so that can affect the delivery time.

2. What exactly is the timeframe for completion of the translation?
Higher quality demands more time, so if your order is express, you should discuss that with the translation agency and reach a mutual consent on the deadline and the quality that will meet your needs and the agency quality requirements.

3. Does the document require certification?
If so, you should know that this is a separate service with additional charging. Certification can be done only if you provide original document or its certified copy.

4. Do you have a prepared glossary with your language requirements?
That is usually the case if the document is part of series of translations with established terminology. Such glossaries can be of great use to translators and shorten the time of completion of the translation.

5. Are there any reference materials that you are going to provide for the translation of the document?
Reference materials are the other great friend of translators. You can be certain that the more reference documents they have the faster and better they will translate.
6. Is there any special cultural or informational background that needs to be considerate?

This covers local vocabulary, measurement systems, specific of terminology in accordance with the subject of translation in the language it needs to be translated in, etc.
